Kari Malia Carolan, MS

Welina mai.

I believe that life’s most difficult seasons often hold the seeds of our greatest growth.

Life can change in ways we never expected. Sometimes it comes through loss. Sometimes through love. Sometimes through sacrifice. And sometimes it leaves us wondering who we are, what matters now, or where we go from here. If that’s where you find yourself, you’re not alone.

I’m Kari, a soon-to-be Associate Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu.

I believe meaningful therapy begins with genuine connection. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Rather than telling you who you should become, I want to help you reconnect with the person you’ve always been beneath the expectations, responsibilities, and narratives that have shaped you.

I recognize that our identities are shaped not only by our personal experiences, but also by our families, cultures, communities, and the expectations we’ve learned to carry. Together, we’ll explore your experiences, what still feels true, and what no longer fits the person you’re becoming. My hope is that therapy helps you move forward with greater clarity about what matters most to you and the confidence to make choices that reflect those values.

I have a special interest in working with adults navigating life’s transitions, including grief, burnout, relationship changes, perimenopause and menopause, caregiving, and the many moments that invite us to redefine who we are. I also support individuals navigating the effects of domestic violence and abusive relationships. While these seasons can be painful, I believe they can also become opportunities to reconnect with the strengths that already exist within you, deepen self-compassion, and move forward with greater clarity and hope.

Wherever you find yourself today, you don’t have to have it all figured out. If what you’ve read resonates with you, I’d love to connect and see if we’re a good fit.
